New Balance 530
The sneaker that faded in the '90s and became an icon thirty years later - New Balance 530
Not every sneaker gets a second chance, let alone one that becomes a defining silhouette of an entire generation. New Balance 530 initially launched to little fanfare, but today it stands as one of the most recognizable faces of the Y2K revival. The chunky sole with significant cushioning, which the market didn't appreciate back then, has decades later become exactly what the fashion world was looking for. It's a textbook example of how design can "catch up" with the times, even if it takes thirty years.
History: from an unassuming performance sneaker to a Y2K icon
The New Balance 530 first debuted in 1992 as a performance running sneaker with a lightweight build and ABZORB technology in the heel. At its launch, it didn't achieve significant success and remained more of a niche model in the brand's lineup. The first signs of a comeback appeared around 2013, when the chunky look of the sneaker began to align with contemporary fashion trends, slowly shifting the 530 from a purely athletic category to the lifestyle segment.
The real turning point came in 2020, when New Balance released a new interpretation of the original design—a version that definitively pulled the sneaker out of the athletic spectrum and made it an icon among fans. A wave of nostalgia for the '90s and early 2000s, combined with the "dad shoe" aesthetic trend, catapulted the 530 back into the spotlight, where it remains today.
Technology: ABZORB cushioning and ENCAP midsole
What makes the 530 comfortable even after all-day wear are these features:
- ABZORB cushioning in the heel: Adds a durable layer of support and cushioning, with a high ability to absorb impact, especially on hard urban surfaces like concrete or pavement.
- ENCAP midsole: Combines a softer foam core with a firmer polyurethane frame for stability without sacrificing comfort.
The cushioning is more subtle than overtly "puffy"—compared to Fresh Foam-based models, the 530 feels more refined, yet many users describe the sensation as "walking on clouds" after all-day testing.
Design
The breathable mesh upper complemented by fresh overlays, lace-up closure, and the legendary "N" logo on the side creates a quintessential Y2K look that works just as well today as a retro reference and as a contemporary fashion piece.
Who this model is for
The New Balance 530 is a fashion silhouette for you if you're looking for authentic Y2K aesthetics with real technical foundations—perfect for everyday wear for lovers of retro design from the turn of the millennium who want a blend of style with all-day comfort.

Jiné nb mi přijdou pohodlnější. vizuál fajn.
More than a century of tradition based on stable and reliable movement. These are the New Balance shoes, which have become a symbol around which a cult of comfortable walking and running lovers has been created during the 20th century. But beyond sneakers, New Balance is also at the forefront of everyday and sports fashion. Every year, a special collection is released and more than one football team boasts the NB logo on their jersey.
The history and development of New Balance shoes
On our website and practically anywhere else, you won't find a large number of brands as old as New Balance. In fact, as early as 1906, the New Balance Arch Support Company was formed to provide specific aids for each shoe. These were designed to not only provide comfort to the then not-so-comfortable shoes, but more importantly stability by supporting the arch of the foot - hence the name New Balance.
However, New Balance sneakers as shoes did not start to come out until many years later. Specifically, the first silhouette of a New Balance shoe saw the light of day in 1960 when the Trackster model came out. It was unique among the others primarily because it was the first outright running shoe with a crimped sole.
But the marketing didn't work very well and for a long time New Balance shoes were still a community affair. It wasn't until the 1970s that sales started to grow, with the popularisation of running, which was also linked to the hosting of the now iconic Boston Marathon. New Balance shoes began to become popular among runners and the company slowly but surely became a leading manufacturer of running shoes.
For running? Yes, but also no.
Today, however, men's and women's New Balance sneakers aren't just a running thing. Over years of branding and image building, they have become sneakers for almost every situation. Today we wear New Balance shoes before a trip to the countryside, a city walk but also a social event and still undoubtedly before a sporting performance.
New Balance sneakers can therefore be found in a variety of different designs. Men's and women's, in black and white and many other colours. The most popular models today are mainly New Balance sneakers with the 247, 373, 574 and 997. Of course, you can find all these New Balance shoes on Footshop. But besides these, there are also many others and the ranges of the latest silhouettes are constantly growing. So before you make your final choice, carefully examine all of our New Balance sneakers.
A record for stability.
New Balance footwear today is not afraid to venture into collaborations with other fashion brands, but also artists or athletes. It's not so long ago that the NB logo also started to appear on the jerseys of some football teams, and it's not impossible that the brand's influence and reach will continue to grow in the future. New Balance sneakers are worn, for example, by Trayvon Bromell, the American sprinter who became the first junior ever to break the magic ten-second mark in the 100 metres. Could it be that New Balance shoes helped him to achieve this?
In short,New Balance sneakers are a phenomenon that we have been wearing for many decades and everything indicates that we will be wearing them for many decades to come. And hopefully in greater numbers. The original intention of the brand, to make wearing sneakers on a daily basis more enjoyable, has not left New Balance shoes even more than a century after the legendary phrase was introduced to the market.
So be part of a tradition with a clear vision and name your sneakers with the iconic NB in the logo.
