Before founding one of the most prominent sustainable brands on the market, two Frenchmen traveled to factories in South America, Asia, and Australia to see firsthand where the materials for sneakers really come from. Veja V-90 is the slimmer, more elegant member of the family of models that emerged from this approach – a shoe built on the philosophy that sneakers can be stylish and ethically made at the same time. History: a brand founded on the journey for materials

The brand Veja was founded in 2004 by Frenchmen Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion with the aim of proving that style and sustainability are not mutually exclusive. Before they came up with their first shoe, they traveled the world and closely examined the materials and production of sneakers in factories across South America, Asia, and Australia. They introduced their first model in 2005, using organic cotton, natural rubber, and recycled plastic, along with a focus on fair trade practices and a lower environmental impact. Kopp describes the brand's design simply: “Veja is about simplification, about designing sneakers that we can wear every day” – inspired by minimalism, workwear, military footwear, and trail shoes.

Technology: wild Amazonian rubber and organic materials

What makes the V-90 a representative model of the entire Veja philosophy are these materials:

• Wild Rubber outsole: A lightweight, neutrally toned outsole made from wild rubber harvested in the Amazon rainforest – specifically containing 40% Amazonian rubber, 23% mineral quartz, 10% recycled rubber scraps, and 11% synthetic rubber.
• Organic Traced leather and suede: The upper combines panels of traceable organic leather and suede for a sleeker, slimmer silhouette than the V-10 model.
• Bio-based EVA insole: The inner insole contains 67% bio-based EVA (of which 53% is from sugarcane), complemented by 13% Amazonian rubber and 11% organic cotton.
• Organic cotton: The laces are made from 100% organic cotton, while the lining is made from 100% recycled polyester.
